Sajeevta Foundation - Shaping young minds through Inclusive learning - Gandhi Nagar- India.

Updated: Feb 19, 2022

2020 was a memorable year for all of us, and I had the opportunity to connect and work with various NGOs across India, one such organisation is Sajeevta Foundation based out of Gandhi Nagar – Gujarat .

The founders set it up to inspire and mentor disadvantaged children who do not have the resources (such as internet access for online classes) to continue their education.

Young children under the age of 5 would develop language and learning skills, and primary school aged children were developing their reading and writing skills before the pandemic. These children come from underprivileged background and their parents were not educated and did not have the skills to teach their children.

I was delighted to learn that Sajeevta Foundation works inclusively with the children AND their families, hence making a deep lasting difference to these children’s academic understanding and long term motivation for success in life. By engaging the parents & elders in the learning process they impart knowledge to the most influential people in these children’s lives.

The foundation’s mission is to combine ground level action with research to identify and pioneer evidence-based approaches of inclusive learning & teaching practices, which could be further shared with educational institutions & professionals in the future. Their vision is to give EQUAL OPPORTUNITY to children from disadvantaged background.

I had a long conversation with one of the founders Mr. Gautam Patel, where I learnt about their journey and their collaboration with publication houses who offered booked translated in Gujarati, how they selected and trained their volunteers (most of whom are young adults) to carry forth the disrupted learning process of these children.

We at earthworks offered our cloth bags to Sajeevta Foundation which was used to carry books they distributed, and for their mentors to carry. It might be a small part of this beautiful initiative, but feels wholesome to see this beautiful image !
